ASU Student Success Centers employ undergraduate and graduate students as desk assistants, subject-area tutors, writing tutors, and Supplemental Instruction leaders.  For more information on current openings and how to apply, click on the specific links below. 

Subject Area Tutor

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Work for 8-12 hours/week during days and/or evenings; work individually and in small groups with students on course concepts
  • Initiate and maintain working relationships with faculty in courses tutored to get copies of textbooks and syllabi and to keep faculty informed of tutoring services
  • Make in-class visits to describe all available tutoring services
  • Contribute a minimum of 2 handouts to center’s resource library
  • Organize test reviews or academic skills workshops as needed during semester by either (a) developing and presenting the workshop or (b) finding a faculty or staff member to present

Qualifications:

  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • Minimum GPA of 3.5 in courses/subjects of tutoring expertise
  • Currently enrolled at Arizona State University
  • Have earned 24 or more credit hours (Sophomore status and higher)

Requirements:

  • Mandatory Training Dates (All 3 days scheduled from 8 am to 5 pm):
  • Attend mandatory staff meetings and additional training sessions during the course of the semester

Compensation: $9.50/hour

Writing Tutor

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Work for 8-12 hours/week during days and/or evenings; work individually and in small groups with students on their writing at any stage of the writing process—from brainstorming to drafting to revising
  • Initiate and maintain working relationships with faculty in courses tutored to get copies of textbooks and syllabi and to keep faculty informed of writing consulting services
  • Make in-class visits to describe all available tutoring services
  • Contribute a minimum of 2 handouts to center’s resource library
  • Organize test reviews or academic skills workshops as needed during semester by either (a) developing and presenting the workshop or (b) finding a faculty or staff member to present

Qualifications:

  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • Currently enrolled at Arizona State University
  • Have earned 24 or more credit hours (Sophomore status and higher)
  • Earned an A or A- in ENG 101 and ENG 102 or in ENG 105
  • Must have strong verbal and written communication skills

Math Tutoring Center Tutor  (Tempe Campus Only)

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Work 10-15 hours per week. Math Tutoring Center hours are 8am – 8pm. M - Th, 8am-3pm Friday, 1pm-6pm Sunday.
  • Work with students individually and in small groups to review course concepts, improve course-based study strategies;
  • Initiate and maintain working relationships with faculty in courses tutored; obtain copy of course syllabus; share information about tutoring programs/services;
  • Visit classes tutored to share information about tutoring services;
  • Organize, publicize and facilitate test reviews as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Completed courses to be tutored with a minimum grade of 3.5 for undergraduate applicants
  • Cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or better
  • Completed Bachelors degree for graduate applicants
  • Have earned 24 or more credit hours (sophomore status and higher)
  • Strong verbal communication skills
  • Interest in collaborative learning
  • Currently enrolled at Arizona State University

Requirements:

  • All new tutors must attend two training sessions prior to the semester.
  • All tutors must participate in a bi-weekly staff meeting.
  • All tutors must comply with job expectations.

Supplemental Instruction Leader

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Attending all lectures of their selected course focus (PGS 101 etc.),
  • Creating and provide SI materials to students on course material
  • Working with faculty members to create meaningful SI sessions for students.

Qualifications:

  • Sophomore standing (25 or more credit hours), with coursework at ASU
  • Be a full time degree seeking student
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Subject area grade of 4.0 in the SI subject, prior enrollment in selected is preferred.
  • Confirmation of content knowledge from SI faculty in each content area

Requirements:

  • Attend and successfully complete training.
  • Attend mandatory bi-weekly staff meetings every other Friday with SI supervisor and all SI leaders
  • Attend class/lecture for your chosen course once a week
  • Meet with SI Supervisor once a week

Pay Rate: Starting pay for undergraduate SI Leaders is $9.50/hour.

Morrison Writing Fellow (Polytechnic Campus Only)

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Work in-person and online for 8-12 hours/week during days and/or evenings; work individually and in small groups with Morrison School students on their writing in courses, including TWC 347, at any stage of the writing process—from brainstorming to drafting to revising. Also work with other students who visit the Writing Center for writing for a variety of other courses offered on campus.
  • Initiate and maintain working relationships with faculty in supported courses
  • Make in-class (both on campus and online) visits to describe all available tutoring services
  • Contribute a minimum of 2 handouts on business and professional writing topics to center’s Morrison School Resource Library and the Student Success Center/Writing Center Resource Library
  • Organize writing workshops as needed during semester by either (a) developing and presenting the workshop or (b) finding a faculty or staff member to present

Qualifications:

  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • Currently enrolled at Arizona State University
  • Junior status or higher
  • Earned an A or A- in ENG 101 and ENG 102 or in ENG 105
  • Earned an A or A- in TWC 447: Business Reports
  • Must have strong verbal and written communication skills

Desk Assistant

Duties/Responsibilities:

Desk Assistants support the Student Success Center staff by scheduling appointments, answering phones, and responding to questions. Applicants should have a friendly and welcoming disposition and possess some prior computer and office experience.

Desk Assistant - Math Tutoring Center (Tempe Campus Only)

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Work 10-20 hours per week during days (Center’s hours are 8am – 6pm);
  • Work with students and tutors managing traffic through the tutor center;
  • Maintain accurate entry in the TutorTrac database.
  • Other duties may include organizational meetings, advertising and general upkeep.

Qualifications:

  • Excellent organizational and managerial skills
  • Cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or better
  • Strong verbal communication skills
  • Interest in collaborative learning
  • Currently enrolled at Arizona State University
  • Requirements:
  • All assistants must attend a training session prior to the semester.
  • All assistants must participate (minimally) in a monthly staff meeting.
  • All assistants must comply with job expectation/requirements.

Pay Rate: Starting pay is $7.25/hour

American Indian Student Support Services (AISSS) Tutor (Tempe Campus Only)

Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Work 6-20 hours per week. AISSS tutoring hours are 11am – 4pm. M - Th, 11am-2pm Friday;
  • Work with students individually and in small groups to review course concepts, improve course-based study strategies;
  • Initiate and maintain working relationships with faculty in courses tutored; obtain copy of course syllabus; share information about tutoring programs/services;
  • Visit classes tutored to share information about tutoring services;

Summer Bridge Student Employment Opportunities

Applications for employment for the 2009 Summer Bridge Program are now being accepted. The application deadline is April 14, 2009. Qualified candidates will be contacted during the month of April for a brief interview. Notifications of acceptance will be made by May 1st.

Summer Bridge Tutor

We are seeking applicants who are outgoing, creative, responsible, and willing to invest themselves in the success of the participants. The program requires the tutoring staff to be responsive to students’ needs and pro-active in supporting the goals of the program.

 

Course that we will be recruiting tutors for include:

  • English:  WAC 101,  ENG 101
  • Mathematics:  JAC 101, MAT 117, MAT 142, MAT 170
  • Communications: COM 100         
  • Psychology: PGS 101                              

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Study Tables: Mondays – Thursdays 12:00 p.m. – 1:30 p.m. Tutors are expected to work with students individually and in small groups to review course concepts and improve course-based study strategies.
  • Class: Available Mondays-Fridays either 7:40-9:20 a.m. or 9:40-11:10 a.m. Within the classroom, tutors must work with their assigned faculty member. Tutors actively participate through sharing information, presenting on a subject, and other duties as assigned.
  • Evening Test Reviews: tutors organize multiple evening test reviews prior to examinations
  • Meet with course instructors weekly and attend staff meetings as needed
  • Dine on campus with Summer Bridge students (using Meal Card)
  • Attend weekly staff meetings

Qualifications:

  • Cumulative GPA requirements - 3.0 or better
  • Subject specific GPA requirements - 3.0
  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills required
  • Current enrollment at ASU with a minimum of 24 or more credit hours
  • Recommended by at least one ASU faculty member

Timeline / Requirements:

  • Summer Bridge runs from July 5, 2009 – August 6, 2009 (ASU Second Summer Session)
  • Training – June 30th, for Summer Bridge Staff Training
  • Orientation - July 5th, for Summer Bridge Student Orientation and Move-In
  • Closing Day Ceremonies- August 6th
  • Staff meetings as needed

Compensation: $8.50-$10.00/hr DOE - 15-20 hours Per Week + Pro-Rated Meal Card

Summer Bridge Community Assistant

We are seeking applicants who are outgoing, creative, responsible, and willing to invest themselves in the success of the participants. The program requires the Community Assistant staff to be responsive to students’ needs and pro-active in supporting the goals of the program.
 
Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Assist with nightly check-in procedures of the floor between 9:45pm-10:30pm
  • Duty responsibilities and community walks
  • Address policy violations
  • Attend required staff meetings, Tuesdays 7:00pm-9:00pm
  • Plan and manage weekly floor meetings, Sundays 8:00pm-9:30pm
  • Implement weekend social programming for students
  • Dine on campus with Summer Bridge students (using Meal Card)
  • Serve as a academic and social role model, confidant, and resource for a diverse group of students
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
  • Cumulative GPA requirements – 2.75
  • Current ASU students must have completed 24 ASU credits
  • Possesses great communication skills
  • Can take charge in situations that may arise in their hall
  • Ability to time manage, multi-task, and motivate others
Timeline / Requirements:
  • Summer Bridge runs from July 5, 2009 – August 6, 2009 (ASU Second Summer Session)
  • Move-in- June 28th, 2009
  • Training – June 28th- July 3rd
