Success Courses

ASU offers several courses that support student academic success and provide structured opportunities for out-of-class learning. Students in any major are encouraged to enroll in these courses. Seating is limited to 19-25 students per section. Class time is dedicated to discussion and small group interaction.

  • UNI 110: Critical Reading and Thinking (3 credits) provides students with strategies to assist them in interpreting, analyzing, and critically evaluating information from a variety of sources.
  • UNI 294: Academic Refresher (1 credit) helps students discover ways to stay on course to meet academic goals.
  • UNI 194: Academic Success Seminar (1 credit) helps students make a successful transition to ASU and develop the skills needed for academic success.

Success Clusters

Offered in the fall semester, Success Clusters are a great way to meet people and improve study habits. Groups of 19 first-semester freshmen are clustered together in the same critical courses. Students register for a pre-set schedule that includes general studies classes and a student success seminar--all at popular times and days of the week.

Benefits:

  • Students are guaranteed space in these classes.

  • Attending classes together allows students to participate in study groups easily

  • Selected large lecture courses include structured review sessions
