Making friends

According to our current students from out-of-state, friends have been the most helpful resource for overcoming challenges. Friends can help with adjusting to the area and preventing or managing homesickness. With so many students and activities at ASU, there are numerous opportunities to make friends. Even so, developing close friendships requires intention and effort. Follow these strategies to make friends at ASU.

Do things around campus

You’ll likely meet people at these activities. Find fun things to do on the Adjusting to Arizona page.

Meet people

Introduce yourself to other students in your classes, in your residence hall or at campus events. See someone sitting by themselves in the dining hall? Ask if you may join them, and then strike up a conversation.

Have lots of conversations
