What is SI?
Supplemental Instruction (SI) offers content-based review sessions for students in selected large lecture classes. Sessions are designed to reinforce course content and offer course-specific study, problem-solving and test-preparation strategies. SI sessions are facilitated by SI Leaders who have previously completed the course with an A or A+. SI Leaders utilize collaborative learning strategies to help students improve their understanding of course material in weekly review sessions. They communicate regularly with faculty to further their understanding of the course content, preparing them to assist other students.
How do students benefit from SI?
Students who participate regularly in SI may benefit by:
- Earning higher scores on tests and quizzes than students who do not participate in SI
- Gaining a better understanding of course concepts
- Learning more effective ways of studying
