Writing Center

Would you like to be a Writing Center tutor?

The Writing Center seeks undergraduate and graduate tutors to provide one-to-one and small group tutoring, as well as workshops. Tutors will be trained to consult with students about their writing processes, considering focus, audience, voice, purpose, organization, revision, and editing. Students with skill in scientific writing and with ESL interest/experience are needed, as well as humanities, education, and business majors.

Qualifications

  • Completed ENG 101 & 102 or ENG 105 or ENG 107 & 108 with a minimum grade of B+ for undergraduate applicants

  • Cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or better

  • Completed Bachelors degree for graduate applicants

  • Sophomore classification or higher (minimum of 24 earned credits)

  • Strong verbal communication skills

  • Interest in collaborative learning

  • Currently enrolled at Arizona State University

Requirements

All tutors must attend two 5-hour training workshops prior to the semester. Undergraduate tutors must enroll in WAC 294, a one-credit course. The course will include the two training workshops, one face-to-face conference with the writing center director, two presentations at staff meetings, and a written contribution to a tutor’s handbook. Continued employment is contingent upon satisfactory completion of the course.
